THE THAMES AT DAWN

£800

This painting portrays the upper reaches of the Thames where the river meanders through the meadows and gently wooded countryside. I gave it a particularly high horizon so that the eye is coaxed into exploring the denser and less defined foreground, which fills the canvas edge to edge, before being 'allowed' to discover the land and river above and so orientate the viewer within the perspective.

The warming sky glows against the darker fields, heralding a fresh new day rising over a land still in darkness. The softened, gilded edges of the far tree-line lend a kind of dreamy distance that contrasts with the vertical lines of the grasses and flower stems in the foreground. These meadows, dense with wild flowers and animated by dabs of colour among the greens, are a little ode to the French Impressionists.

I hope this painting inspires optimism just as the morning light symbolises a new start.

The Thames at Dawn is the perfect size for multiple wall sizes. It can complement other works of art for a more maximalist feel, or alternatively become a key colourful focal point to a more minimalist home.
